Exploring the Depths of the Universe: Unveiling Distant Galaxies

Distant galaxies, Twinkling in the night sky, Mysteries untold

The James Webb Space Telescope is a joint endeavour of US, European and Canadian space agencies which was launched in 2021. Its mission is to see farther across the cosmos and further back in time than any other astronomical tool.

Its latest discovery, JADES-GS-z14-0 is a
testament to its capabilities

This distant galaxy, located next to another galaxy, but far behind it has shattered the previous record. Observed only 290 million years after the Big Bang. To put this into perspective, the Universe is estimated to be 13.8 billion years old. Making this galaxy a mere 2% of its current age.

What makes this discovery even more intriguing is the size and brightness of JADES-GS-z14-0. Webb has measured the galaxy to be more than 1600 light-years across. Making it several billion times the mass of the Sun. This raises the question of how nature was able to create such a massive and bright galaxy in less than 300 million years. The presence of oxygen in this young galaxy is also a surprise, suggesting that multiple generations of massive stars had already lived and died before we observed it.

The word JADES in the galaxy's name stands for JWST Advanced Deep Extragalactic Survey. It is one of numerous observation programs using Webb to study the first few hundred million years of the Universe. This telescope was specifically designed to find the first stars to ignite in a nascent Universe. These giant objects are made only of hydrogen and helium and have short, but brilliant lives, creating the heavier elements seen in nature today.

Webb's discovery of JADES-GS-z14-0 offer
some valuable insights into the early stages
of the Universe

The presence of oxygen in this galaxy suggests it is already quite mature. This contradicts the theory that a majority of light in luminous galaxies is produced by gas falling into the central supermassive black hole. Instead, researchers believe light is generated by young stars, indicating that this galaxy has gone through multiple cycles of star formation.

This groundbreaking discovery highlights the importance of the James Webb Space Telescope in unravelling the mysteries of the Universe. With its advanced technology and capabilities, it has the potential to reveal even more distant and ancient galaxies.

These findings raise new questions and
challenges for scientists to explore!

The latest record-breaking discovery of JADES-GS-z14-0 by the James Webb Space Telescope has once again pushed the boundaries of space exploration. This distant galaxy. Observed only 290 million years after the Big Bang. Provides valuable insights into the Universe's early stages and poses new questions for scientists to unravel.

Webb continues to unveil the wonders of the cosmos and take us on a journey through the depths of our Universe.

Until next time ...

About ...

I have had a long career in administration and office management. My working life started when I joined the Women's Royal Army Corps at age 17, where I trained as a Technical Clerk. Following my return to civilian life, worked as a data input clerk in the commercial sector, as an Administrator for Turning Point, a Not for profit organisation and lastly a Business Support Manager for Sport England a non-departmental government body.

However, my last two roles were made redundant, and I had no backup plan. One thing I knew for sure was, that I no longer wanted to work in the corporate world, but was unable to find a suitable role locally. At this point I was introduced to this amazing company that I now work with. At this event there was a video playing and I heard the word 'pension', so I listened because I was concerned about my pension provision. I do have a pension that pays me a grand total of £45 per month! That evening I saw the opportunity to grow my pension and change my lifestyle, so happily got registered.

Being an introvert, I had some challenges to overcome,  so it took me a while to get going. But the training and the personal development I've had since then means that I have become more confident person and have met some amazing people along the way.

The future looks amazing because I have the opportunity to help others create the life they want and to continue to grow my business for me and my family  I am grateful to my friend for exposing me to this phenomenal company.

I am a mother of two grown-up sons and a grandmother of three.  💗
